Pulsebloom

Hit the petal on the beat, hold the long ones, watch the flower open.

About

A rhythm game played on a circle instead of a highway. Petals push out from the center along four spokes, and you hit the matching key as each one crosses the ring.

Every sound is synthesised in the browser: drums, bass, pads, and a bell playing the melody. The melody is the chart, so playing a run cleanly is also hearing the tune land right.

Three tracks, each faster than the last. First Light teaches the basics, Violet Hour asks for two keys at once, and Supernova gets mean. A clean run takes about two minutes. A clean S on Supernova takes a lot longer.

How to play

Arrow keys or W A S D, one key per direction, matching the spoke the petal is travelling along. Hold the key for the long notes until the tail runs out; letting go early breaks the note and your combo.

Enter plays the selected track, up and down choose it, C opens calibration, M mutes, Esc or P pauses, R restarts the track, Q quits to the menu from the pause or results screen.

Strategy: watch the ring, not the petal. The band around the ring is the timing window drawn to scale, and the brighter inner band is a Perfect. And if the marks on the bar under the flower all sit on one side, you are not bad at the game, you are mistimed: press C on the menu and tap eight beats.
