Night Freight

Drive a train that never stops and drop crates onto the platforms sliding past below. One button, thirty stops, three contracts.

About

You are the drop hand on a night goods train. The train never slows down and you never steer it. The only thing you control is the hopper door, and the only question is when to open it.

Every station on the route has to be served. Release too early and the crate falls into the river, release too late and the platform is already gone. Land it on the bright band in the middle of the deck and you get a perfect, and perfects chain into a multiplier that is worth more than anything else on the board. Three failed stops and the service is suspended.

The route is five legs long and each one takes something away from you. The dusk yard is wide and slow and shows you a full predicted arc. Then the platforms get narrower, crosswinds start bending the drop, the fog rolls in over moving platforms, and finally the high pass throws tunnels at you that black out the train exactly when you need to release, so you have to keep the timing in your head. Clear all thirty stops and the run rolls into overtime, which is where the big scores live.

A run lasts one to three minutes. Losing is quick, restarting is one key, and the whole thing is one button, so the only thing that improves is your sense of timing.

How to play

Space, click, or tap: open the hopper door and drop one crate. That is the whole control scheme.

P or Esc: pause. M: mute. R on the pause or game over screen: back to the title.

The amber arrow ahead of the train marks the release point. When the centre of an incoming platform crosses it, drop. The dotted line under the train shows the path the crate will take, and the ring at the end shows the altitude it will land at.

Strategy: do not chase a stop you have already lost. A crate in the river only breaks your chain, but a station that goes past unserved costs a contract, so when you know a drop is late, hold the button and get set for the next one.
